Pinterest!

Hooked on Pinterest - the discovery has recently been made and the unlimited reach and variety of the  web has drawn me in!    Boards – public AND secret?   Followers and following.  Unlimited DIY ideas, crafts, recipes.  Oh and animals - lots of smiles and 'awe's as I scroll through pictures pinned by others.  Taking precedence are cats – from a magnificent Ligar (cross between a lion and tigress) to Norwegian Forest cats. Noble and stunning horses are also finding their way onto my boards.  All things books, and oh, what a great place to line up those unattainable celebrity crushes!  Both current day and from long ago teenage angst.   For example James Drury – TheVirginian from the early ‘70’s..such a crush I had on that cowboy!  Anyone else remember that western? Today’s equivalent is Jon Hamm….apparently a tall dark, brooding, and handsome theme still runs through my veins!

Not to mention being able to gather all things Star Trek and Tolkien.    It’s like having a library and craft room all in one tiny  but unlimited  space – my computer.  With the beauty of not having to dust anything!  However the question is – how will this benefit my pursuit of writing and is there room for Jamie Tremain amidst the boards.   Pinterest is fast becoming another popular social media and I believe I can see some benefits – networking with other authors and writers for one.   How neat to have a spot to gather, and organize, books related to this wonderful community of writers.

Tomorrow is a planned Jamie Tremain day as I trek off to spend it with Pam in Oakville – she has promised a lunch at Stoney’s – if we can get in the door!  Then we need to work on our collaborative offering for the Scene of the Crime short story contest – due next month.  How to merge two different endings into one tale – there’s a challenge.  Lots of coffee please!

Belated Happy New Year

The Christmas season is now finally over for yours truly.  One last family get together yesterday at my sister’s lovely new home in Oakville.  A chance for this side of the family to gather and exchange gifts and a whole lot of food.  Hor d’ouevres and snackie food to start.  Later followed by a non-traditional holiday meal, it was pure comfort food!  Baked macaroni and cheese, some meatballs and salads.  All so delicious and set out buffet style.  Pies and brownies were among the finishing touches with coffee and eggnog.

Two of the grandchildren brought along their new Furbys.  Made for some interesting conversation among the adults and one of the resident cats didn't quite know what to make of them. A lot of Furbish dialogue between the two toys only made sense to them.  The better discovery of the day was learning my granddaughter appears to be a budding chess player, and she’s not eight years old yet.

Also now coming to an end are the recent shortened work weeks – not sure how I’ll cope with a full week as of tomorrow.  No doubt the traffic volumes will be back to their usual capacity.  The past two weeks have been so enjoyable with very light traffic, but all good things…….

Speaking of good things – unlike Pam I'm thoroughly enjoying a new Tassimo.  Last month I had the good fortune to win one at our work Christmas luncheon.  Experimenting with different styles of coffee and hot chocolates; its only limitation in my opinion is tea.  Nothing beats a good pot of tea made with freshly boiling water and being allowed to steep.  Just can’t duplicate that with an instant coffee machine.  The kitchen table is currently doubling as a T-disc dispensary, with a multitude of different coffees to choose from while the novelty is new.

Another highlight, for me, over the past month was taking in the première of “The Hobbit” with my oldest son.  He and I share a great love for Tolkien’s work, as well as all things Star Trek – the next film coming in May by the way.  It’s become tradition for the two of us to take in new releases at the cinemas whenever possible.

As Pam mentioned ‘Jamie Tremain’ plans a get together later this month on a Saturday to brainstorm ideas for book number three.  We are excited to start something fresh.  At the same time Body Perfect will be set loose now upon publishers and/or agents in the hopes of finding the right connection for us.  I've been using my excel skills to create spreadsheets for keeping track of resources, potential agents, our favourite authors and other useful information to store all in one place.  Keeping it revised and current is now much easier than hunting for a multitude of different files.  A fresh start for 2013.

Hoping that all of your fresh start resolutions are manageable and that 2013 brings you all good things and success in your endeavours.

Short & Sweet

Happy Mothers' Day!

As Pam mentioned my computer is in a non working status, and is currently in for repairs...thanks to my good friend Rebecca for the loan of her computer to check my email and to quickly post a brief blog.

Spent a lovely afternoon yesterday for Mother's Day with my oldest son and his family. My other son and his family joined in along with my daughter. A barbecue had been planned, but the weather was too unsettled to sit outside. However barbecued meats taste just as great indoors!

Friday evening saw my oldest son, William, and I take in the new Star Trek movie..what a treat!! Its something we share in common and have made it our special time to share in any new premieres, This one was AWESOME! I have fallen in love with the early Star Trek all over again..the new "young" Star Trek cast have nailed their characters perfectly and the whole movie was a wonderful ride from start to finish...bring on more!!!

Well as I said, this would be brief and I must not take advantage of the time loaned to me, so need to attend to other outstanding email.

I'll be glad to be back online - hopefully no later than Friday - and finish getting ready for our Bloody Words in less than a month!
