I've been able to read a lot more this year, than in many previous ones. Even managing to read a few pages each night in bed. Could that be one of the reasons I fall asleep faster? Don't know, but I'm happy in any event.
While I will always prefer to hold a book in my hands, to be able to flip back a few pages if need be, this year I've purchased books on sale for my Kobo, and downloaded books from my local library. I've even been listening to my first audio book. Sally Field's autobiography "In Pieces" is narrated by her so that's a bonus.
Well developed mysteries, whether stand alone, or of a series, will always be my 'go to', but I am never disappointed in the domestic suspense type of thrillers produced by Joy Fielding, Shari Lapena, and Chevy Stevens - to name but a few.
But I also enjoy getting my reading teeth into something heavier. Historical works by Edward Rutherfurd (Sarum, China, London, etc). And Ken Follett's Pillars of the Earth stays in my top ten.
I'm a Lord of the Rings fan as well, and have read the series twice. An epic and timeless tale of good triumphing over evil.
When I was much (much!) younger, I enjoyed science fiction. Getting lost in the worlds created by Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov, H.G. Wells, and Ray Bradbury.
With some avid readers within my circle of family and friends, I have a list of new authors and books to discover - but there is always room for more.
So what about you, dear reader? Would you share one or two favourite books, and why they are worth sharing?
Tell me in the comments below and I will post here when I read them.
This has been a very warm summer in southern Ontario, and I'm not rushing summer away, but I look ahead to cooler days of autumn and settling in my comfy chair, with tea and a good book!
Cheers!
Liz
