Autumn, so far, has been perfectly perfect.
Summer-like temperatures during the day, cooling down at night. Trees, here in
southern Ontario, are donning beautiful colours of red, yellow and orange, but
there is still a lot of green. The grass is lush and the air is fresh. Yes, I
know it won’t last, but for now each day is to be enjoyed.

Thanksgiving, for Canada, is a week away
(October 13) and already I can smell the turkey roasting, taste the pumpkin pie
and hear the laughter as family gathers to mark a day dedicated to being
thankful. Which really should be every day, but I don’t think I’d enjoy turkey
and trimmings 24/7!
On the book writing front, so many indie
authors are weary of fighting off (bot-generated?) requests to market your “Fabulous
Book”, or bogus “How is your writing journey” email from supposed well-known
authors. After the third such email, it becomes easy to spot the potential scam.
Delete, delete, delete! Requests that say, “I came across your post –
where can I buy your book” don’t even warrant a response anymore.
And then there are the book club requests –"I’d love to feature your amazing/wonderful/captivating book at our next session!" Seriously, why are you
asking, just do it. Oh, wait, right. It’s
because you want me to pay you to feature my book. No, not happening.
And now it’s become routine to delete any
kind of unsolicited email request, which is worrisome because there just might be one email that
is from a genuine, real-live human reader. As well I’m sure there are
legitimate book marketers, digital creators, etc, who are trying to make a
living, but sadly their requests are now seen as scam and treated as such.
I have to wonder what the next wave of
misleading – fraudulent – requests will bring. The game is tiring, but just as
with our own personal security, writers have to be on guard all the time. Most
of us can ill-afford to invest heard-earned money into a proposal with no
guaranteed income return.
Right, enough venting. Time to get back to
writing.
Pam and I, along with Gloria, writing as
Ferris Tremain, are putting final touches on our next Mechanic Falls Gem Caper
novella – Tequila Harp. It’s seasonal and centered around St. Patrick’s Day. Watch for it early next year!
So, fellow Canadians, I wish you a peaceful and bountiful Thanksgiving. And the fact it is a long weekend means you might have some extra time to read? Hint, hint. Details on all our books can be found here - https://jamietremain.blogspot.com/p/series-and-book-descriptions.html
Cheers!
